Do we need to read devotionals and other books or materials since we have the Bible which is God’s Word? God speaks through His Word and we must always read His Word first and foremost. His Word is the standard that all other books and materials are lined up with. We are using other books only as aids to help us in our search of God’s Word. If whatever we are reading doesn’t line up with the Bible then we don’t need to read it.

Devotionals and other materials can motivate us and give us the desire to read the Bible more. They can open us up to where God’s Word becomes easier to understand and they can help give us insight into the scriptures we are studying. No matter what you’re studying always let the Bible be your guide so that you can accurately apply it to your life.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
